Christmas On The Pond

The moment I decided to move to Maine this image popped into my head.

As the leaves changed the loons started abandoning our pond and heading to the ocean. These two, parent and child, were the last, lingering into late November. I found I could paddle up wind then drift with them on the breeze and got to watch this chick as he ventured away, then back to check in with “mom”. I was extremely lucky to catch this perfect moment when the little guy ducked around mom to give me a smile!
